Public Hearing on Sale of Khyber Building to Community Group Tomorrow

Halifax/ K’jipuktuk – Halifax Regional Council will hold a public hearing on the sale of 1588 Barrington Street – commonly known as the Khyber Building – to the 1588 Barrington Building Preservation Society on Tuesday May 22. The hearing is the last chance for the public to have their say and show their support before Council votes on whether to sell the building to the Society.

Where: City Hall, Council Chambers

In March of 2016 Halifax Regional Council voted to sell the Khyber Building through the community stream, which gives not-for-profit organizations the opportunity to purchase properties that have potential for community use. In May of 2017 the 1588 Society submitted a proposal to buy the building.

Those who wish to speak at the hearing must sign up in person at 5:30PM at City Hall. You may also submit written comment through the Municipal Clerk’s Office.
