Cities need art. We’re keeping it alive in downtown Halifax.
The new Turret Arts Space will house a critically engaged community where youth, artists, and the public can connect and thrive in a space that is physically, economically, and culturally accessible.
Let’s foster art and expression

Generators of culture and community
The impacts of the Turret Arts Space reach beyond its four heritage walls, instilling a life force that has been missing from Halifax’s downtown core.
Celebrating the Queer History of 1588 Barrington Street
From 1976 to 1982, 1588 Barrington Street was home to the Turret Club, a unique social space run by and for the Gay and Lesbian community. This critical contemporary history deserves celebration and formal commemoration.
For me, the Turret is a line in the sand. The Turret Arts Space ignites my hope for collaboration and positive change. We are building real agency, participation and livelihood for youth and artists. Just wait to see what Halifax feels like once our pulse reverberates throughout the downtown core and beyond!
